提供最大的网络基础结构是网络工程师的主要目标。主要学科是计算机科学，成为计算机网络工程师。这些类型的工程涉及制定计划，设计和一些技术规范。这就是为什么网络工程师要比任何其他类型的工程师承担更多责任的原因。他们的工作是为世界提供一个更好的网络，以维持在服务器上，并进行属于用户的活动。

网络工程师的年薪范围从46,500美元到115,000美元不等，这完全取决于他们的经验和技能。

成为网络工程师的直接方法是获取供应商证书，该证书被称为Cisco Certified Network Associate(CCNA)。还有其他一些证书，例如：
