Lennox Lewis is a retired British-Canadian professional boxer who competed from 1989 to 2003. He is a three-time world heavyweight champion, having also held the lineal heavyweight title. In his professional career, Lewis won 41 of his 44 fights, with 32 of those wins coming by knockout. He is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.

Early Life

Born on September 2, 1965, in London, England, Lennox Lewis moved to Canada at the age of 12. He started boxing at the age of 15 and soon became a Canadian amateur champion. He represented Canada in the Olympics in 1984 but lost in the quarter-finals. Four years later, he won the gold medal in the super heavyweight category at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Professional Career

After turning pro in 1989, Lennox Lewis won his first 21 fights, including victories over Tony Tucker, Razor Ruddock, and Frank Bruno. In 1992, he suffered his first defeat when he was knocked out by Oliver McCall in two rounds. However, he avenged the loss in a rematch in 1997.

In 1999, Lennox Lewis became undisputed heavyweight champion when he defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch. He held the titles until 2001 when he lost to Hasim Rahman in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. But he regained the titles later that year by knocking out Rahman in a rematch.

In 2002, Lennox Lewis defeated Mike Tyson in what was billed as the "Fight of the Millennium." He retired as champion in 2003 with a record of 41 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.

Legacy

Lennox Lewis is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He has won multiple awards, including the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and the Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. In 2021, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
