Ashima Goyal is a Professor of Economics at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai, India. She is well-known for her research in macroeconomics, financial economics, and international economics.
Ashima Goyal received her Ph.D. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi in 1984.
Ashima Goyal started her career as a Lecturer in the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. She also worked as an Economist in the World Bank in Washington D.C. for a brief period. Currently, she is a Professor of Economics at IGIDR and has been associated with the institute since its inception in 1987.
Ashima Goyal has authored several research papers, books, and reports in her academic career. Her research interests include macroeconomics, monetary policy, fiscal policy, financial economics, and international economics.
One of her most cited papers is "Inflation and Growth in an Integrated Walrasian Model" (1993). In this paper, she analyzes the relationship between inflation, growth, and monetary policy in a dynamic general equilibrium model.

She has also served as the President of the Indian Econometric Society. In 2019, she was appointed as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.
